Job Description: Chief Accountant
Job Title: Chief Accountant / General Accountant
Location: Belize
Salary Range: BZD 45,000 – BZD 55,000 annually
Objective
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance of the accounting for the group’s seven (7) companies. The Chief Accountant is responsible for issuing consolidated financial statements and ensuring strict compliance with all tax obligations in Belize.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
- Comprehensive Accounting Management
- Direct the full accounting cycle—including recording, classification, consolidation, and closing—for the seven group companies. Ensure the rigorous application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) across all financial operations.
Financial Consolidation
- Design and execute the monthly financial statement consolidation process for the 7 entities. This includes accurately eliminating intercompany transactions to present the true and fair financial position of the entire group.
Tax Compliance
- Prepare, review, and authorize all monthly and annual tax returns submitted to the Belize Tax Service (BTS). Ensure strict compliance with Business Tax, General Sales Tax (GST), and payroll withholdings (PAYE) to guarantee zero penalties.
Audit Management
- Act as the primary liaison and coordinator with both external and internal auditors. Prepare comprehensive audit schedules and respond promptly and accurately to all information requirements during the review processes.
Team Supervision
- Direct, evaluate, and train the accounting team, which includes a Junior Accountant, Reconciler, and Accounting Assistants. Effectively distribute workloads and ensure the highest quality of their deliverables.
Policies and Procedures
- Draft, update, and enforce the group’s Accounting Policies Manual. Standardize the Chart of Accounts across all 7 companies to ensure consistency and streamlined reporting.
Fixed Assets Control
- Supervise the recording, depreciation, capitalization, and physical control of fixed assets. Oversee the accounting for infrastructure under development, specifically relating to the cruise port project.
Key Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• Experience: 5 to 7 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, financial consolidation, and tax compliance.
