Financial Controller (Full-time)

 

Primary Role:

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal financial control policies and procedures. Finance Controller responsibilities will also include financial risk management. This position reports to the Business Owner/Director.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Business processes

● Review and design adequate information systems and financial reporting processes.
● Develop and/or enforce internal financial control policies and procedures.
● Evaluate and manage financial risks, issues, and suggest timely solutions.
● Supervises Office Administrator(s) and provides feedback and guidance.
● Liaise with the relevant agencies, vendors, customers to resolve discrepancies or rectify issues.
● Support with opening/closing company financial accounts.

Book-keeping and Accounting

● Manage and oversee various accounting operations, such as accounts receivables, accounts payables, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
● Prepare and publish monthly/quarterly and annual budgets, financial statements, reports, and forecasts, such as cash flow, income statement, and balance sheet.
● Conduct bank reconciliations to date verifying that there are no reconciliation items pending investigation.
● Prepare, process and file monthly GST, Business Tax, Contract Tax, Income Tax (P.A.Y.E), and Social Security and enter to the relevant databases.
● Process daily, weekly and/or semi-monthly payments to vendors.
● Conduct internal and support external audits.
● Oversee year-end closings, in accordance with applicable tax laws, financial reporting

Standards and Company policies.

● Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and policies.
● Stay current with changes in tax laws and update financial procedures accordingly.
● Maintain constant communication with the Managing Director about important changes in tax matters that may affect or impact the Company.

 

Payroll

  • Set-up and maintain pay period earnings, deductions, and taxes (including but not limited to Belize PAYE withholdings, Belize Social Security, employee insurance premiums). Maintain balances per employee for all earnings and associated hours, deductions, and taxes.
  • Calculate sick and vacation leave accruals each pay period and display sick and vacation leave balances on pay-stubs/vouchers.
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller or Accountant
  • 3+ years of overall combined accounting and financial management.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
  • Ability to manage/supervise staff.
