Duties

 

The Agricultural Scientist serves as the representative for the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) in the country of Belize and works in alignment with APHIS direction. Principle responsibilities include APHIS liaison with Belize government agencies for plant and animal trade issues with oversight of Export Certification of Medfly-Host Commodities; is the USDA agricultural expert with local oversight of the US-Belize Bilateral Agreement for control of Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) in Belize.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate.

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.

Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

 

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required in biological or agricultural sciences is required.

Qualifications:
Experience:

Five years of experience in developing, directing, or evaluating agricultural health programs is required.

Language: Fluent Reading/Writing/Speaking English is required. (This may be tested)

Good working knowledge Reading/Writing/Speaking Spanish is required. (This may be tested)

Skills And Abilities’:  valid driver’s license for a minimum of five years is required. (Note: This position includes incidental driving responsibilities. To meet our Safety and Health Environment Management Policy, incidental drivers must be 25 years or older and must be able to pass an incidental driver’s physical examination.)
